Canada I want to move!!!

Recommended Posts

4 years ago we started the application process for emigration to Canada - did lots of research first, books, forums etc and decided it would be a fab place for our family to live - and yes the house prices were an incentive. We decided to visit as many places as we could in a month to check it all out. We landed in Toronto and traveled as far east as Quebec City, stopping every few days somewhere different. We were looking at eastern Canada as it was recommended as my OH works in IT and his company has offices there. It is a beautiful place but we found that the places where we would want to live were just too far for daily commutes to work. In the big cities and smaller towns it was a bit like the suburban life style you see in the movies, very neat and organised and far too many fast food chains.

In the end at the time where we had to decide go or stay, ( 26 months later!), we decided that we preferred the quirkiness of the UK. Have never regretted the decision. Might be tempted again if didn't have to earn a living as could live further out into the wilds. Can always dream.

P.S Never saw a wild animal the whole month and we stayed in Algonquin Park for 5 days!

I've lived in Canada for a little while (Montreal). Some parts of Canada are beautiful. But there are some long highways, that are very boring & you can be miles away from a simple convenience store. In Canada, best if you can speak French too (quite fluently). They also have bears, racoons, chipmunks, porcupines and..................skunks! The skunks scent stinks for absolute miles!

I liked certain parts, but would not want to live there.

One of my cousins OH comes from farming folk in Seskatchewan - very flat, but has added advantage of approaching storms so that they can batten the hatches, so to speak. Apparently some of his parents barns are made from corrugated iron - riddled with huge dents from cricket ball sized hailstones! They would say baseball sized!

New Zealand anyone?
