We got woken up at 430 this morning by our two pups being very restless in their crate downstairs. When I was fully awake I realised the 3 chooks were making an almighty racket, I had a look out the window and saw Mr Fox at the end of the run ! Me and the other half sprung into action and let the dogs out - who were too scared and stayed behind us

By the time all 4 of us got outside together the Fox had legged it and and the girls were clucking for food !

 

This is the first time I've ever seen a Fox in our village but thankfully the wonderfull eglu run kept it out - phew

Sounds like you need to speak to your pups and teach them to 'speak up for themselves' a lesson in acting tough, even if they don't feel it, bless them!

Do lock your hens away at night, won't you? The fox will be back terrorizing them now every morning. They like to lie on top of the Eglu run and take swipes.

Phew, I'm glad your girls were safe!

 

Gallina's right, the fox will be back. When I had dawn visits, I invested in a Foxwatch (online from Primrose) and it's been brilliant, I'd really recommend it to discourage foxes from coming near the Eglu.

 

Dogs are a deterrent (& warning system) but I know of several cases where their presence hasn't stopped a hungry fox.

Thanks for the advice guys - as were up at the crack of dawn anyway now we have decided to lock the girls up at night ! I'll have a look at foxwatch

I also rate the Foxwatch. I do think it does what the manufacturers claim

 

I wouldn't rely on it totally, but it does have its place in the battle against the fox.
