Two of my hens egg shells change appearance ater a couple of days

They are normal when first laid,but gain a look of having oily marks on them after a day or so - anyone else get this?

No, haven't noticed. All I know is that the shell is determined by the colour of the chooks ears and varies according to their breed. Having said that, I've got one chicken that constantly lays different coloured eggs!

Yes - some of mine have done this! I keep them on the kitchen worktop. My blue eggs sometimes go mottly looking - as you said almost like oil marks, after a few days, and I noticed one of Spice's eggs has gone spotty. Don't know why it happens and they are fine inside

Interesting as Hermione's matt blue eggs look oily after a day or two whereas Hazel's that are shiny blue don't. I wonder why?

I haven't noticed any of mine do that, though Dinks eggs change from day to day. Sometimes they are darker, have darker speckles or have a rougher texture - but I can always tell the difference between the 3. Bonzas are creamy beige, and Chucks are beige with white freckles!

One of mine lays eggs which look smeared lightly with grease. All the eggs from my four have their own characteristics even though I haven't been able to tell who lays which eggs. But the slightly greasy egg is the strangest of all!
