Corton Blue? at Glencroft Poultry

Recommended Posts

Off down south to Nottingham next week for a few days so I have a cunning plan to bring back 4 Hybrids as holidays souvenirs 8)

I have contacted glencroft poultry as I would have liked a Columbine but sadly none in stock. They do however have a blue egg chicken call a Corton Blue. I think this was what it was called, the phone was a bit crackly.

Has anyone come across this breed of chicken before?

I would also like a Fenning White, a Mendlesham Blue and one other, not sure which yet but probably a light coloured chicken or another blue layer.

Would four be fine in a mark 2 eglu with a run convertor? They would get plenty of time in the afternoons and at the weekends to free range :D

I haven't yet told DD Natalie that she will be sharing the car with four chickens for 6 hours plus on the way home :P

It could have been called a fenton blue, the line was very bad.

I was just reading in another thread about you getting 2 Fenton blues. Are they from glencroft or another place?

Hybrids are scarce up here and I really would like a blue egg layer and a white egg layer.

I would be passing quite close to glencroft on my way home although I don't mind a slight detour so any other places I could try would be gratefully received.

Oh I'd definately reccomend Glencrofy poulrty. Thay had hundreds of breeds to choose from when i went. We have a Fenning white, a Brown Nick and two colmbines from there. They are all very reasonably priced too with lots of choice. He'll catch the birds for you too. It's only a slight detour off the A1 too.

When you arrive you'll be greeted by two large dogs and although they bark they don't bite. Just push through the gate and walk round the back of the house where you'll be greeted.

I phoned Glencroft again yesterday and the blue egg layer is indeed called a Corton Blue. It is a new hybrid which has not been listed on the website yet.

I have to phone a couple of days before I want to pick up to see what breeds are in stock. There are no Fenning whites at the moment :(

Ooh, I don't like big dogs  I think I will give the man a call from my car when I arrive to escort me round the back
