I have already got a cube which has been brilliant, but I recently purchased an eglu for a few bantams. I have only noticed this today, but the door to the nest box doesn't shut properly. I'm not sure whether it has always been this way or whether it has happened today. On closing the door it is moving about and in fact I can get my fingers behind it and I COULD pull it off, I just do not want to because I am afraid of doing more damage. Has anyone else had this problem? The metal bar that holds it shut is in the correct place.

I'm really nervous about leaving the Eglu tonight, a fox could easily get in. I'm going to have to try to wedge it shut in some way. I would apprciate your comments.

Mine does the same....I also don't want to pull too hard for fear of causing damage...I am in the process of finishing a walk in run and I haven't recieved my girls yet so it's not been an issue, but I've often thought a determined preditor could easily get in.

That's quite worrying and surely a design fault! I have no doubt at all that a fox could get the door off. I will have to lean something up against the eglu to avoid this happening! I've packed it with cardboard this evening but we are going on holiday and I cannot expect the person looking after them whilst I am away to pack the door shut every night! I might take a picture and send it to Omlet to ask if it is normal!!

That's an interesting thread, most people are saying that whilst there is a little movement, it IS secure once closed.. mine definitely isn't secure.. I think I need to speak to Omlet tomorrow. The port door is completely free of the eglu on the left hand side and that is the part I can get my fingers behind. Surely this is not right as it SHOULD be slotting into the frame of the eglu. A slight wobble would still be secure, but the door coming free of the frame can't be correct!

I would ring Omlet ... a bit of loose fit is normal, but you should (in my experience) be able to close the eggport and pull hard without anything happening. That was always my reassurance.

Give them a call, they are usually helpful on things like this.

Worryingly I have actually pulled the door off quite easily this morning. I have been in touch with Omlet and they are sending a new port door out to me. Apparently they can be moulded slightly different and it should solve the problem! They were very helpful so I'm sure if the problem isn't solved they will be quick to help again. In the meantime, I will have to keep packing the door closed.. foxes are in our garden every night so it's quite a worry.

right I just went to look again. If I pull it (and not that hard) where I can get my fingers in I get a big gap and can see into the eglu (it easily comes away with a few inch gap), if I pulled it a bit harder I could get it off too I am sure. I think I shall ring them, I am off for a week soon and so although I have someone in morning and night there will be no one here over night to listen out.

Just spoke to them and they were lovely and are sending me a new door too. Thank you for bringing up this topic Lynne, I had noticed mine was wobbly before but didn't really think about seeing what would happen if I put my fingers in. I am so attatched to the girls, even after only 2 weeks, I would be so upset if anything happened to them. :(

My 5 silkies are new too.. I would hate anything to happen to them. Like you I am going away soon and I worry that no one is here (only to let them out and put them back) so I want everything secure.

My new port door arrived, but it is exactly like the one I have. I can get my fingers behind it and pull the door off as before. I'm really disappointed. I would say it is the eglu itself that has the fault and the door opening is too big.. how did oyu get on Yolky?

I rang Omlet on Monday to explain about the second badly fitting port door. They said it was probably the cover that was faulty and, as I was going on holiday, arranged for someone to come out tomorrow to fit a new cover. I cannot fault the service I have received from them with either the cube I have already or the Elgu now. Fortunately I DO live within about half an hour of Omlet's headquarters otherwise I may have had to wait longer!

Omlet have been out today with new hood and door port. However, it was the same as my existing one, in fact, I would say that my existing one is slightly better so the poor guy has left leaving things as they were and taking the replacement stuff back!! I can get my fingers behind all 3 doors that have been here. The first one was by far the worst and practically just dropped off. I'm wondering now if I've started something that isn't actually a problem, although it concerns me a great deal that it is so easy to put our fingers behind the doors! A fox could have got my first door off easily. Anyway, the outcome is that the guy from Omlet is taking hood and door back to the office to show to the mangers there and we'll see what happens. Apparenlty in 4 years he has never known this to be a problem so it's interesting that so many of us now seem to find fault!!

I was not the only one to notice how insecure my door was. Our babysitter was sitting on Sat eve and popped the ladies to bed, she checked they were all inside and commented on how loose the eggport door was!

Prehaps it's a design flaw thats gone unoticed untill now?

Eitherway after paying all that money for a hen house you would expect it to be secure.

Omlet are sending me a replacement in the post, so I'll keep you udated on how good the fit is
