cathybc
sorry to mention the 'C' word in July....anyway, me and my mum want to go away for Xmas this year, as it is the first since my dad died. We are thinking of staying in the UK, due to cost, also, she is worried about flying if the weather is bad. It doesn't have to be anywhere child-friendly as it is just the two of us - has anyone been anywhere good ? (or bad, so we avoid it !). thank you ps chooks staying at home with the pet sitter ! xxx
Angels4
I'm not sure if this would be possible as you mention staying in the UK...However you also mention this being the first holiday since the passing of your dad. Might your mum like to show you the sights of where your dad and she spent thier honeymoon, or might it bring up too many sad memories for your mum? ClaireG
We went here a couple of years ago for New Years and it was fantastic. I think Christmas would be great as well http://www.coombeabbey.com/events/christmas.htm

Snowy
This is a lovely old country house hotel http://www.bigginhall.co.uk/index.html Just south of Buxton so not too far, beautiful scenary, log fires, gorgeous food, extremely friendly. lisa33
Andyman & I (well I did anyway) wanted to go away for Christmas but found that staying in the UK was outrageously priced. Now we're going to the Algarve for a week, costing not much more than 4 nights in a hotel in UK.
Guest
I totally know where you are coming from. Since we lost my Dad christmases havn't been the same, especially as HIS familiy who we have spent every christmas with in living memory have dropped us as it "upsets" them that Uncle Phil isn't there. Funny how they don't think it might upset us! Last year I looked at places in the UK and was SHOCKED at the cost. So the three of us had a rather miserable Christmas together - was like a very boring Sunday really. This year we booked early for Disney - Florida! We havn't mentioned it to any of the family, not even sure they will bother to ask what we are doing. I hope they worry about us when they can't get us on Christmas day. Angels4
Disney at Christmas is BEAUTIFUL...Are you staying on property?
Sunshine
We went to Disney at Christmas a few years ago and loved it. We found it very busy compared to summer time though. We planned to go out to one of the parks on new years eve but there was a massive thunderstorm so we stayed in.Was also good because it wasnt nearly as hot compared to the summer but i don't remember it being cold.I'm sure you will have a great time! They went to Germany the day after England beat them in the 1966 world cup ! Claire and Snowy - thanks for the links, they both look great. I am going to my mum's tomorrow and will chat through the options. Penguinmad - dontcha just love families sometimes ? You will have an amazing time at Disney. I went for New Year some years ago, it was warm enough to sunbathe (in case you get time to !) but not too hot, and the atmosphere was unbelieveable. Even (now-ex) OH walked round like a little kid saying 'I didn't think it would be as good as this...'.
Popcorn
Ooo, Kathy, Disneyland will be MAGICAL at Christmas, James will be in his element. Pre-children we always used to go away the week leading up to Christmas and have been to some smashing places both abroad and in the UK. My favourite place is the Lakes. Beautiful at that time of year - big coats and hats required though!
