annie hall
Hi all, Imagine our delight this morning when Nigella, after only 14 hours in the eglu laid her first egg with us. It was so exciting. As I type Margot is suddenly clucking like mad and strutting about so we think another may be iminent. Nigella's egg was marvellous, bright orange yolk and so lovely and warm when I lifted it from the eggport. We shared it poached and it was the freshest egg I have ever had. The ladies are settling in better than we ever expected. Apart from the feathers you would never know they were still in a battery farm this time last week. Today the sun is shinging on them and they are struting about in it. The eglu is bigger than we imagined, the eggport is very large and the roosting bars are in two sections when i had imagined them being individual, apart from that I don't think its very different to the original. All three ladies are very timid at the moment but we have high hopes that will improve with time, but we are sure they are content and happy. Mrs Frugal
Congratulations Annie - they must think they're on Cloud Nine in their shiny new Eglu. Bless their little starfish feet! I hope it's the first of many eggs. Well done Nigella .
Sheilaz
What delightful news. Lovely to think of them enjoying their freedom together. And now egg presents for you. Are all three in a similar condition or does their strength vary?

annie hall
All three hens have now laid an egg, we cannot believe our luck. And all in the nest box too. They have been for a run around the garden and we have managed to give them all a cuddle. They are all roughly the same size though Margot has the most feathers, about 50%, while nigella has fewer and barbara fewer still, hardly any on her body infact. They are all eating loads and drinking too. Having hens is great so far, Annie

Well done to you and your new girls it's so good to hear they are recovering so well after their terrible start in life. Bless them they must be wondering just what they did to change their lives so much
