Ain't Nobody Here
Poet, that article is so shocking and disgusting, I couldn't believe what I was reading . The hidden face of the Beijing Olympics . I'll bet none of that will be even hinted at during the tv coverage .
Joojoo
I'm sat here in tears with my 6 puss cats all around me wanting a fuss cos they can see I'm upset . I've read and watched so many articles and programmes about the appalling cruelty suffered by animals in China and just when you think you've seen it all and it can't get any worse something else comes along. Absolutely barbaric This is the worse one I've seen so far. WARNING - please do not watch this if you are unsure. edited: to remove the link. If anyone wants to see it, pm me and I'll email it to you. I'm sorry for any upset caused. Edited August 4, 2008 by Guest
Mumpty
Joojoo, despite your warning and the warning on the sky news trailer, I felt I must watch it. Oh my God what is wrong with this world? What is wrong with these prople? Can't they see the suffering? Don't they have any feelings at all about what they're watching? I am gobsmacked and deeply saddened by it all, I know more vile thinge are going on in other countries to animals and I just cannot work out why. Crikey, I go all soppy when a blue tit uses my new feeding table or if I see a butterfly on my bedlea, don't they want to look at these animals and see them happy and cared for? Do they really get pleasue watching a cow being eaten alive for 10 minutes or a bear riding a bycicle? I'll stop now and get off my soap box. Lets all go the Troys garden, it's a sanctuary. Guest
omg, I had to switch it off when the cow fell out of the truck. It is beyond my comprehension that families take their babies to watch this and consider it entertainment. It's a totally different mentality that I cannot begin to understand. I stood on Mariana's toe by accident the other day, she squealed and I was in tears! She's fine by the way Maybe I'm too soft but I cannot bear enforced cruelty and suffering for entertainment's sake. A tiger taking another wild animal in the wild is something I don't like to watch but I can accept it because it's nature. It's not natural what these people are doing. It's blood lust! I have seen worse too but it's not appropriate for this forum.
Joojoo
I sincerely hope I haven't caused anyone any additional upset by posting the link on here and I will remove it and apologise to them if I have. It just defies belief what the human race is capable of I'm the silly devil that has rescued a fish from the cat at the weekend, and is still worrying about whether it will be ok when we release it. I agree about Troys garden it looks like Hen Paradise
mollymo
No they don'tc have feelings . they are blind to suffering where money is concerned. I cant believe the ammount of uneducated people that are subscribing to these olympics. They should boycott it, and then maybe these authorities would wake up. This is a country that are so cash rich they cant afford to put a dog down humanely they skin them alive for fur. But still we all deal with China. mollymo
Jojoo You haven't caused upset at all . We know it goes on. Everyone bagged Heather Mills in the press but she made us aware of this years ago and is a good person who genuinly cares for animal welfare. chooklady
We don't have a lot of choice but deal with them, everything you pick up in the shops is made there. My brother lives in China and I am not very keen to admit that. He would like me to go and visit, but he knows what I think about China. Troy your garden and chicken run and chickens are brilliant. What a fantastic run. What spoilt girls they are. Super photos Best wishes Nicola
Guest
......This is a country that are so cash rich they cant afford to put a dog down humanely they skin them alive for fur. But still we all deal with China. and cats, for the pot. thing is though, it's all very well moaning about things here but how many people actually take action? Everyone has an MP, everyone can e-mail the Chinese embassy in London but do they? I posted about the BHWT and Mr Kipling earlier in the thread and i think 2 people responded. I hope there are those out there that have taken action but prefer to remain anonymous. Don't just sit there, write to your MP, most of them have web sites and e-mails now. I'll be mailing mine. Yes, it's a different culture but when that country has animal cruelty as part of its culture and we sanction it by taking part in the olympics there, what does that say? It's not just the animal issue either, what about Tibet? and now they're gunning for Taiwan!
Guest
p.s. ONLY read this is you can handle reading about extreme crulety, this link is VERY DISTRESSING http://yingna.yinten.com/2007/08/16/cats-boiled-alive-inhumane/ I actually saw a documentary about it and saw the footage on TV, I've never seen anything so cruel in my entire life and it haunts me to this day. The guy commenting under the photo obviously didn't see what I saw, it does happen, trust me, I've seen it! I spoke to a Chinese colleague who said that the word for "animal" in his native tongue translates as "moving thing" - animals are considered no more sentient than vegetables. taken from http://www.messybeast.com/eat-cats.htm whis is also VERY DISTRESSING I hope these posts don't get modded as I think everyone should be aware of what goes on there. This isn't a 'have a go at the chinese' comment, there are probably plenty of chinese out there who find this just as appalling as we do. katieandnick
Getting back to Troy's new run - congrats! Was Tony entirely knackered after putting it up?! Poor fella, I do wonder where he gets his energy from!
Troy
Yeah he was katieandnick. Ran around like a headless chicken afterwards!! Many, many, many thanks to you all for your lovely and funny comments. Blimey!! What have we started here! No apologies needed joojoo. It is a sad fact of life that while we remain at the top of the food chain, these things will go on. It is all so very very sad and somethimes I think we feel that we are alone in our anguish as we watch the abhorrations that go on around us. Most people turn away because its easier and it eases the pain for them if they pretend its not there. It might even - go away if they dont think about it!!! But I dont think anyone should have a finger pointed at them for that because it takes an awful lot of courage to say to yourself 'I'm going to do something!' and do it. It took me yeeeaaars to get to that point -especially with Lara, because.... we stole her She 'belonged' to some horrid people that own a Taverna. They had about 15 kittens wandering about all skinny with eye infections and sores. When we saw lara (tiny then) she was lying in a corner with a paw about the size of my head. She looked so poorly. Anyway this womans children were filling empty bottles of water up and hurling them at the kittens to 'teach' them not to ask for s"Ooops, word censored!"s around the tables... I asked the woman if I could take the kit to a vet and she said no AND that it belonged to her AND if there was something wrong with it, it should die. And thats when it hit me folks. For all those years of looking away, here I was plotting an escape for this tiny sick kitten! Hubby was 'The Driver' He was instructed to scoop the kitten up and bundle her into his backpack whilst I paid the bill and distracted the woman with my clumsy Greek. Our kids by the way were too busy trying to stop the bottle hurling!! I tell you the adrenaline was pumping big time! Theres me telling the kids that stealing is wrong The best memory I have of this is making my way to the car expecting to hear her yelling any second- and finally seeing on my the passenger seat a little kitten with the biggest green eyes staring up at me! Nickin' her felt sooo goood! and sitting there with 6 cats joojoo is 6 cats more that have been given a life of comfort and love! troy

Nickin' her felt sooo goood! and sitting there with 6 cats joojoo is 6 cats more that have been given a life of comfort and love! troy That's an amazing story Troy Well done you We had an incident a few years ago when we were on holiday in Skiathos, where 3 kittens were swept down a stream in a huge thunderstorm and I spent the whole day tracking back up the stream to find where they came from. When we found them, one of them had sadly died, the other 2 were up to their necks in mud. It was heartbreaking to see them. We cut through the fence to get to them and then set about finding where they were from. Same scenario as you, unfortunately. The owners weren't interested and said to leave them, if they recover they do. If they don't, they don't. Fortunately, there is a wonderful British lady on the island who rescues tortoises when the bush fires come and she also takes in quite a lot of the stray cats and kittens that roam around. The animals live out their days there quite happily with her. I've since heard that she is quite well known amongst the tourists, who will visit her just to give donations I spent months agonising over the way animals are just disregarded by the locals. It breaks my heart to go somewhere so beautiful, but see the appalling cruelty they meter out. On a nicer note, when we visited Egypt recently, we went on a quad biking safari to a "Bedouin" village. There was a gorgeous little tortoiseshell cat who was wandering around where we sat. She looked quite healthy and happy, considering there wouldn't have been much for her to hunt and the heat was unbelievable out there. She spent an hour curled up at our feet
Guest
I bet it was hard to leave the other kittens behind, so sad that people can treat animals with such contempt.
Mumpty
Yes Peot, I'm contacting my MP about this and will see who else I can pester about the chinese and their gladiatorial sports and food fettishes. I cannot understand how a country can be so far advanced in some things and yet be living in the dark ages in others. Surely they can look at all this and think 'wait a minute, that's not right, that animal is suffering'. does a cat really have to be boiled and skinned alive to make it taste better - I doubt it, my meat from waitrose (free range - to encourage happy animals) tastes blooming good having been raised kindly and killed humanely. They are uneducated barbarians
Mumpty
I have just been sent a beautiful email from a friend with the most wonderful photos of animals around the world chillin' and having fun, but as it is an attatchment and I am computer challenged I don't know how to put it on here for you all to see. I will ask knowledgeable (spelling?) teenage daughter when she gets in to see if I can post it for you all, it really is lovely and will lift your spirits after all the horror we've been chatting about. Ms Marple
A beautiful chicken palace Troy. I don't suppose they come as far North as Manchester do they?? Very interesting thread folks - horrifying too. We have done nothing as brave as you Troy. All I can add is that all our cats and dogs have always been rescue animals. The cats from the local Animal Sanctuary and the dogs at Christmas from a friend who took in a Dog's Home Stray, that unbeknown to her was pregnant. (can't believe they didn't know at the home!) Anyway she had TEN puppies and my friend managed to home them all - we have two - Arthur and Digby - what a handful but fun too.
Troy
Ms Marple I thought I'd just mention re your last post on this thread...I believe that Manchester is not out of the question as I know that Tony at Aviaries4u makes them on his premises and offers either delivery with erection on site or delivey with panels etc all finished and flat packed for home assembly. And that seemed very straight forward. Ours was a bit tricky because of the roof but the rest was already made when it arrived. He makes any size any shape and for the quality and reassurance that the girls are safe in there, it is worth every penny. troy
