I love the picture of the cube in various locations in the garden. It reminds me of that teddy that was taken around the world and had its picture taken at famous places - hmm there's a marketing idea for Omlet - and Eglu at the South Pole, or on top of Everest. Or a Cube at the Picasso museum (cubist - get it?) or on the Tate and Lyle roundabout in Bury St Edmunds (sugar cube!) Oh this could be a whole new thread.... Anyone got Photoshop?

Wow back mollymo! You've just brought a tear to my eye. what a lovely thing to say. Thank you.

But I spent many a vacation in Cyprus whilst growing up and always remember they way in which these dogs were treated. The cruelty use to make me physically sick. It was something I promised myself I would do if ever I could.

Thank Goodness hubbys a softie...You see there is the matter of the other 2 dogs we brought over with Tess Mum took those as they were tied and dumped in a dustbin together and are inseperable friends now. Uhumm... and then theres Lara our beautiful cat. We found her on Lara Beach after being bitten by a viper....

 

Thank goodness we managed to quarantine them in Cyprus it was a fraction of the cost of doing the same in the UK. Plus the lady running the sanctuary, boarded the animals for the 6 months at her home, so we had minimal board to pay. Shes a Saint. They needed almost 6 mos to recover, especially Tess, before they could travel so it fitted in with their quarantine restrictions.

It was the best feeling in the world. Finally being able to save some of these poor creatures.

Its ex-batts next. I can feel it in me bones!

That's an amazing thing you did for those poor animals . Not many would go that far, I'm sure.

 

When I was small, my mum & dad rescued an abandoned dog by the side of the road in Japan (apparently, unwanted dogs were driven out of the cities and just dumped ). She proceeded to have 9 puppies in my brother's bedroom cupboard . Sadly only 4 survived but Honey lived with us for 3 years until we left Japan and my dad's successor took her on.

That's why i don't go abroad i would spend half the holiday worrying about animals i seen.

Your hen house is beautiful, we don't even have anything like that for us!! and your grass is beautiful too - how do you manage that. I don't have to worry about the chooks ruining my lawn when I get them because its trashed already.

I remember when on honeymoon (20 years ago), hubby would go of deep sea fishing (we went to Kenya), and I'd stay and sunbathe and order steak from the restaurant to feed to the stray cats around the hotel complex. I'd love to rescue some animals from awful situations.

The girls free range but spend most of their time rummaging in the beds and the little ones dont really do much anyway. We have'nt had them through autumn yet but when the Oaks lose their leaves it will be interesting to see how they are going to wade through all those millions of leaves!!

try going to Beijing mumpty, they're slaughtering thousands of cats to rid the streets of them for the olympics. I'm dead against the olympics being held there for several reasons, that being one of them.

Don't tempt me - my husband is driven insane with my animal antics. I'm always on the look out for discarded boxes and bags in case there's something inside. Someone at work recued a lurcher recently, she found it tied to a tree on her way to work and the vet found it's leg had been fractured in three places some time ago and never treated THESE PEOPLE SHOULD BE SHOT.

I try to refuse any product made in China but it is so hard as everyting is made there.

 

 

Also i don't know if anyone agree's here but i have read up on keeping chickens for months as i like to get knowledge before keeping pets as it is not fair on them to just take on for a fad.

 

A lot of people who are worried about foxes say shoot them. i could never shoot a fox for scavaging for food, although i had this argument before and people say they kill for pleasure.

 

You can secure your hens and keep foxes out without resorting to killing the poor things.

Why do they have to do that, just so some people can run about and collect medals, bloody studpid, the Olymics if you ask me, they spend millions they haven't got and destoy vast areas just for the games and then it all lies dormant.

sorry for going off topic...mumpty, you should read about the bear bile farms. China doesn't exactly have the greatest animal or human rights record for that matter.

 

I am so annoyed that this country isn't boycotting the olympics this year.

You know what though. It goes on everywhere, all over the world. The US is just as bad with her 'meat' trade and in Portugal dogs are thrown into huge containers and left to die. As they decompose more are piled on top and so on...

People like us cant 'fix it' but we can make a small difference.

If Tess (we call her Tess the Betrayed) were to die tomorrow I would be content with knowing that she finally knew what it meant to 'play' and that it was ok to bark and run around the garden showing off - with no-one ready to beat her.

Its just a small ridiculous difference I feel I have made but my God a HUGE one for her!

But if everyone took one small step we could march around the world. It's like saying why bother to take on exbatts when they will be replaced straight away, you'll never stop the trade etc etc, but then if you don't try it will NEVER stop.

If we all made one small difference to one thing that matters then in the UK alone that would be 60.7 MILLION differences. How great would that be?

Don't underestimate what you've done, you saved your dogs life, there's nothing you can do that will ever beat that
