daj198
Hi Guys I currently have three hens; Penny, Agnes and Matilda. But they aren't laying amazingly at the moment (no eggs yesterday) and I have a spare eglu so I would like to adopt some more ex-batts to go in the other eglu but my parents aren't so keen. Any advice on how to persuade them? (Hoping the lack of eggs will help) I'm not sure how I managed to get hens in the first place! Thanks
Tiggy
parents aren't keen how did you aquire a spare eglu? I'm sure once your mom & dad get to know the 3 girls you have they will think differently, if they aren't laying yet i presume you haven't had them for very long. My OH was not interested at first but he loves them now, chickens tend to do that. Maybe your parents need a little more time, meanwhile take good care of the girls you have and enjoy
daj198
Thanks Tiggy. I've had the ex-batts since November last year and they've been laying almost 7 a week each since then... it just seems to have dropped now. I think the reason I'm the most pro-chicken is because I'm the primary care giver. I'm going away later this month and my Dad is going to have to look after them so maybe that will help. He's got a PhD is animal nutrition so likes animals. We got the spare eglu when Hetti died and we wanted to get one to replace her. Some people on the forum had Matilda and her eglu so we got the eglu too to make introducing her easier. Now they're all friends and we have a vacant eglu. Scramble
I'm exactly the same! I'm only 13 and my dad heard about the eglu on the radio, so he thought he'd tell me about it... Big mistake! I joined nearly a year ago, and now finally he's given in and let me get chickens, except I have to pay for everything myself... I don't mind that much really, so my eglu is on the way and I'm picking me chickens up later. My persuasion techniques where telling him: 1. eggs 2. adorable chickens in the garden 3. that i'd take responsibility for them And, well... I can't really remember the rest! My dad isn't a pet person, but i've won him over. Just tell your parents that you've handled this many chickens for a while now and that you feel completly capable of looking after more chickens, and that they will get more eggs and it just means that you are a very responsible and capable of looking after another living thing Or, just make a speech at him and use lots of big impressive words, it doesn't reslly matter what you say. Dads never listen anyway! Good Luck x
dancing cloud
You could always resort to the emotional blackmail of showing them the BHWT website and reminding them of how wonderful it is to give ex-batts a life of freedom. Having done such a good job with your first ex-batts, you could let them know you now feel responsible enough to do the same with some more - assuming you really are ready to do this. Sneaky and only to be used alongside more-positive tactics, but it might just work ...
