bokbokbok
This evening we picked up 6 chooks from the Chook Man. As predicted we got 1 x Welsummer Bantam 1 x Wyandotte Bantam 1 x Rhode Island Red 1 x Buff Sussex 2 x Isa Browns They have all been successfully installed in their wee house and given a handful of mixed corn to make them like me Now begins the fun of the children claiming THEIR chicken, naming them and waiting for the eggs to start. I don't think these birds are particularly young (probably around a year) and Chook Man expects them all to be laying already so perhaps there will be eggs sooner rather than later

Hen Watch
Congrats on the new girls. Hope you kids have fun choosing names. My children absolutely insisted on "Henny" no matter how much I tried to point out it wasn't very original. But they would not have anything else....... dancing cloud
I asked my brother's children to name some of my ex-batts and now all they want to know is how "their" hen is getting on and want eggs from "their" hens. Good job I have the other three to myself really Have hours of fun - I certainly have.
bokbokbok
So they settled in last night ok. We kept watching them even as they tried to give us the hint that it was time to leave by falling asleep in front of us! Here is one of the Isas in the box on the way home: This is them settling in last night: Here are a couple of them enjoying the run for the first time this morning: This is the Isa-Who-is-Temporarily-Called-Sandy going in to the nest box again, the first one to be bold enough to go exploring. This is where she was going: LOOOOOK!!! Our first egg on day one (only going to confirm that these aren't young birds!) laid by one of the Isas :
