Size and weight of eggs.

Recommended Posts

3 of my 6 chooks started to lay on Monday, the weights of the eggs were, 36, 38 and 46 gms.

Todays eggs are 48, 50 and a whopping 60 gms!

It is so exciting to go down and find three together, I can't wait for a 6 egg day!

The two PP's and one of the GNR's are laying.

Quickcluck, I think you might just have to give it time. I got mine a few weeksish before you and today is my first day when all three layed (unless one did two eggies today) my second only came into lay a few days ago so it does take a while. Also my first layer only layed her first big egg 2 days ago. I don't think you are doing anything wrong at all and they will all be laying really soon :)

I got mine in the middle of May and only 2 out of 3 are laying. She still seems quite immature compared to the others.

My pepperpot started off laying about 34g and the biggest she has laid is 58g. My gingernut started at about 48 and now lays up to 64g.

It just takes time. I also stopped giving them too many treats

My PP's and GNR's are Omlet hens, one of the GNR's isn't laying yet, even though she is as well developed as the other one. The amber star and spekeldy came from Thornes, Frank said they were about 18 weeks on the 11/7 , but no sign of eggs yet.

The 68 gm egg from day 3 turned put to be double yolker! I didn't expect three today as I thought that my first layer would have a day off, but she has laid 7 in a row.

ohhhhhhhh well done bluebelle!!!

may be she laid as she's the only one with a name!

bluebelles are fab... Sapphire laid her first egg yesterday in the run, and today we had another in the nest! both dinky eggs, I still have eggs in the kitchen from local farm, looking enormous in comparison, (no digital scales to tell you the weight) but she's the only one to have even made a start on the egg production, so well done her! Hope the other 2 get the idea soon, before i think the sacrifice of most of my veg patch is a poor price to pay  Apparently carrot tops are much nicer to eat than the slugs that free range the garden.

Oh, and they were delicious (the eggs, not the slugs...)

My chooks have as much grit and crushed shells as they can eat.

In the last month they have scoffed more than a kilogram already.

For supplements they have Garlic, that Bran stuff, and Chicken Spice.

The Eggs from Betty are like armour plated bombs. At this rate we'll end up with dents in the frying pan.
