tortoise baths

Recommended Posts

Fantastic! We got one last year - Lizzie, who we now suspect is a boy. We tend to bath once every week or two, but will sometimes clean around eyes and mouth at other times if he seems to have food/bedding clinging to his face. Mind you, for some reason visitors always want to bath him! We initially used a soft toothbrush (like for a baby) but as he has grown we got a toroise brush from ebay (sorry, can't recall name of store) and rub olive oil on shell and legs afterwards to moisturise (leads to folk joking about how long you intend to cook it for!). Oh yes, and the tortoise is likely to poo and pee in the water and you should remove tortoise from water when it has done so (if ever tortoise seems lethargic, a bath and a good empty of bowl and bladder seems to help!). We have noticed Lizzy moves much faster after a bath - postitively sprints! Good luck with your new pets - they are lovely creatures.
