Sorry to sound stupid but, will she lay an egg again? and if so do you know when? and also what can we do to help her? Stevie Posted August 23, 2008 Share Posted August 23, 2008 One of mine frequently goes broody and the only thing which snaps her out of it is a few days in solitary confinement (a puppy crate) plus regular dunking in cold water to lower body temperature.Far as i know-you cant prevent them from going broody,but if there is a magical cure to stop it i'd love to know! RubyReckless Posted August 23, 2008 Share Posted August 23, 2008 The free range egg woman at our farmers' market agreed with the above advice - isolate her, make her as cool, uncomfortable and draughty as can be and she'll snap out of it. I'm a bit haphazard - we tend to just ride the phase out, but it does take 3 to 6 weeks! As for preventing it - collect eggs promptly, but some hens (and some breeds) are just prone to it. It snaps them out of it in a few days and if you can catch them at the first signs of broodiness, you can be lucky and snap them out of it so fast you hardly lose any eggs at all!
