Attaching an Eglu to a Homemade Run....

Recommended Posts

I would love to build a homemade run for my future much anticipated chickens I would like a walk in run and would like to attach an Eglu, I am using Cinnamon's set up as my bench mark :!: I can see that several people have made similar things however how do you manage to get a snug and secure fit between the Eglu and run and when mounting your eglu on a stand or table does it ever seem unstable? any advice would be great! :?

We have just done our walk in run and couldn't work out how to safely attatch the eglu to the outside but we didn't want to waste the space in the run where the eglu would be so we put the eglu on a table so they can use the area underneath. Behind the eglu we have made an eglu sized door so we can open/close the eglu, get the eggs and easily clean the poo tray.

both our eglus, and subsequently our cubes are securely attached to the outside of the run. It is difficult to explain but basically you cut a hole in the weldmesh, slightly smaller than the eglu, and then bend the wire out towards the outside of the run. You then curve this bent out piece around the grey front piece of the eglu (i.e when the shell is off). You will need to make some cuts in it (the mesh) to make it curve around. You then use the washers and screws to attach it to the eglu. Then pop the shell back on and everything is secure and snug. This is obviously done with the eglu at ground level, and we had them sat on a big slab for added security.

Does that make sense?

My cube is just butted up to the run, with a hole cut out of the mesh for the doorway. The cube is so heavy that no animal could move it. I did buy some bungees from Wickes to fasten the legs of it to the run posts, but I had no need to do so, & took them back for a refund. The ladder is fastened inside the run, as shown. To open the back of the cube I put one side of it onto its wheels, which gives me enough space to push the lid forward & then open up the back- this was a tip from Bellekatz.
