Electricbarbarella
I just went to wash stripeys fluffy knickers as i noticed they looked a bit grubby, she has all white scaly stuff around the base off the feathers, is quite bald (I hadn't noticed before and then I noticed something wiggling, I have looked at pictures and am convinced it is lice, what do I do. Will the pet shop have something i can use?
Donna_0
If its lice I think that you can use diatom powder..don't quote me on it though, I'm new to all this but seem to have the laptop welded to my arm on this forum You can buy diatom powder from horsey and farm suppliers, as I guess you'll want it straight away, otherwise omlet sell it. I dust our two in it and then sprinkle it in the eglu too to keep red mite at bay. If its wiggly it might be maggots (flystrike) not sure what to do about that?? Hopefully someone will be along shortly with some advice..hope you get it sorted, things like that you would probably want to deal with straight away like I would (I would be itching and scratching all day ) -Barbara -Margot
Helen&Lee
I used Johnson's Lice and Mite spray, you can get it from Pets at Home in the bird/ parrot section. You will need to withdraw the eggs from use for two days after you have sprayed them. I spotted lice on my broody last week so treated all the chooks the next day - within 2 days she was crawl free. Ain't Nobody Here
Can't believe how many lice posts there have been just this week . I found lice on Milly today . With ES's help, I snipped off the feathers with the eggs attached and gave her a spray with Johnson's Anti Mite spray. I checked the other 2 who seemed to be clear, but gave them a quick spray too. I plan to dust them all with Diatom and Red Mite powder tomorrow and give the eglu a good clean out on Saturday.
