Liam
Hi, I`ve just become the proud owner of an 8 week old lion-mane grey buck rabbit, he's adorable! I am on the lookout for a female companion for him (both will be neutered!) but want to eventually house them in a run, all year round, to give them more space. Getting a rablu is out of the question, on cost grounds, so I will be making one myself, and will ensure it's fox proof. I`m soon going to move my chicken eglu to a pernament site using wood chippings, and wondered if it's possible to house rabbits on a similar basis? Any experiences / thoughts / suggestions very welcome! Thanks Liam
bethany
I've got an eglu for my rabbits and I leave the run door open 24/7 and I cover the floor with the same wood chippings that my mum covers the floor of her chicken eglu with and after experimenting with different flooring such as grass, straw, sawdust, bare earth and sawdust I've found wood chippings to be the best. Rabbits like digging and as long as you have either an underwire to the run or concrete underneath with no room for them to escape they love digging and s"Ooops, word censored!"ing in wood chippings. The only thing I would say though is to cover the run well because my rabbit got poorly feet from walking on the wet floor during a damp week and I'd only changed it a day or so before. I just cover mine with transparent plastic so they can still look out. Hope this helps
chickenlickin
My mini lionhead, Narla has a two tier hutch outside and a diy run made from extendable metal fireguards that I bought cheaply off ebay or from Friday free-ads. Take the sections apart and put them back together to make a circle. My run is made from four fireguards so it is a really decent size. Also I can make it smaller if necessary and I move it to different places in the garden. I have never had any problems with rabbit jumping out either. I hope this helps.
