Ginny has a problem with a patch of feathers on her back

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'm new to the Forum so hope I am doing this right!

We keep two chickens in our eglu and they have both been fine and happy up til now. Recently Ginny has developed a patch of 'pecked looking' feathers on her back, just above her tail feathers. We have never caught Blackie pecking her but the patch is definitely growing larger by the day.

Ginny seems perfectly healthy apart from her feather 'problem', and laying lovely eggs, but we are worried that she may have some kind of mite or something. We are relative novices at chicken-keeping and would love to have any kind of advice.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Mine started the same way, she could be pecking her at night ( mine are brazen and do it infront of me now :x ) , try some anti peck spray see if this helps , other than that you could check for lice , by stroking her feathers the wrong way to see if there are any eggs at the base of the shaft by the skin (pictures on faq am not very good on computers so don't know how to post the link

i'm sure someone else with more experience will be along soon to answer your question in a bit more detail :)
