Patridge bantam chicken poorly foot?

Is it ok to put full bales of straw in a run/enclosure or is there a risk of mites etc?

I'd say it should be fine, it'll give them something to jump onto, if its fresh I'm not sure there'd be a big problem with mites either.

Mine have a bale of straw - this is my second. It's hay that has the mite problem so make sure it's straw. They really love having something to sit on and to peck of course. I like having something to sit on too - as long as it's not been pooed on!

 

My first bale eventually disintegrated and they spread it liberally all around the run. It took me absolutely ages to clear out all the straw (because the run became quite smelly) and because of that I'm not sure I will get another bale.
