finger lickin good
Has anyone tried grass mats under the bark chippings of their eglu? My OH suggested these as they would improve the drainage which we need in this current rainy climate. I was wondering if anyone had used them and if the chooks are okay with them. thanks
Egluntyne
Do you mean this sort of stuff? I'd be concerned about the hens catching their claws on them when they scratch about.
Sandychick
Oh I see.......thanks Egluntine, I was trying to imagine mats made out of grass which was causing all sorts of confusion in my head It sent me off on a tangent about astro turf in the chickens area........grass that chickens don't eat still at £10 a square meter, I don't think it's going to happen any time soon
Lewis
Same here ...... clay soil. Persistant drizzle is fine and last winter was OK. But the worst is constant heavy rain and my back garden turns into a pond. Kills all my bulbs. Anyway, temporary measure, I put some rubber door mats with holes on the ground and Auboise on top. I just put 2 of them at the end of the run. It only raises the ground half an inch but is enough for the chooks to stand on when the weather is bad and they also have a perch. This is off a post at the moment, look here
