jackiepoppies
e-readers? I am tempted to buy for my DD as a Xmas pressie as she has 2 littluns and it would be less to pack when she goes on Hols, etc. etc. Any info gratefully received, also do you know if you can import childrens' books with pictures, ['specially Thomas the Tank Engine!]. Am thinking of getting the Sony prs 505. No technical data needed as I wouldn't understand it just an opinion of whether you think they're worth it. Many thanks in anticipation! Redwing
They did a review on these on the Gadget Show a couple of months back, they only tested three as they were still quite new to the market then, I remember it as I had never heard of them! The Gadget Show may have a website where the reviews are held maybe? They also said whose handhelds will allow any websites downloaded books and who you would be restricted to use for downloads on others. Phonix
I just googled it and read a review here: http://arstechnica.com/reviews/hardware/sony-reader-review.ars/1 It goes through the positives and the negatives and I think the biggest drawback would be that you can only put ebooks on it that come from the Sony store of which there are about 20,000 but apparently not many popular titles (i.e. lack of Harry Potter!) Hope this might help a little! xXx
Willow
I'm not sure but I think take-up has been really low - may affect book availability
jackiepoppies
Thanks folks, I'll put that on hold for a bit then.....then they'll probably take off and I won't be able to get one in time for Xmas Jackiex
Cinnamon
The Sony one is on my Christmas list There was a thread about them, started by me,a few weeks ago. I love gadgets & I love books,so its right up my street
Geoid
Someone said to me it was too pricey for them... Its £199, and has over 20,000 free titles for download. If most books cost around £6.99 and you want to get 20,000 of them, it would cost you £139,800. So the e-reader is a bargain!
