Becka
Hello, I've been very pleased with my crop of chillies this year but as they are very potent, I can only use one at a time which has meant I am left with a bit of a glut. How do I preserve the remaining chillies for use during the year? Many thanks, Becka
lisa33
I have always frozen surplus chillis.
Becka
I hadn't even considered freezing them! I'll give that a shot, thanks. Becka
Tara.F
in oil? or you could always dry and string (like onions) since chillies are so very beautiful They make a gorgeous addition to an autumn or a Christmas wreath, or an unusual gift tag for a 'foodie' present. If you are going to freeze them, vary how you do so. You could freeze a couple whole, blend some with a little veg oil (and perhaps a little garlic) and freeze in an ice cube tray ready to add to winter stews. Finally open freeze some very fine circle slices to garnish soups and salads with And well done you for growing so many!
Christian
I dry mine on the boiler/radiator and when they are crispy, pop them in a sealed jar. They keep for years! I also put them in oil (when dried) and give them away as pressies.

Becka
Thanks for the great ideas. I was a bit worried that I might end up with a load of mouldy chillies! Becka
A chickychickychick-ENN!!
Dry and string. They look pretty in the kitchen (just don't dust them with Pledge!) and rehydrate a treat in cooking. Anna x
