finger lickin good
We have had our chickens 5 weeks now at they were at POl when we got all 3. Margot & Babs are now happily laying an egg a day. Just wondering how much longer my black rock Jerry will take. Compare to the other 2 she seems quite immature and is more interested in playing rather than laying. Do i just need to be patient. They were all bought at POL at the same time Edited September 29, 2008 by Guest
Egluntyne
You just need to be patient. POL is a stage, not an exact age. In hybrids it starts at around 18weeks, in pure breeds, a little later. They could have been anywhere between 18 and 24/6 weeks when they arrived. Maybe your pepperpot was at the lower end of this age range when she arrived and has a bit of catching up to do.
finger lickin good
Thanks, I thought I might just need to be patient but every time she goes into the eglu i get all excited run down but still no egg.
Janty
I had to wait 8 weeks for my first girl to lay. It is difficult being patient. When she did finally lay, I thought that hubby had played a trick on me because he was laughing at my reaction to finding an egg. I was ready to kill him! finger lickin good
Jerry has started crouching in the past couple of days so I am hopeful that it won't be much longer. Margot & Babs are still happily laying. You feeling any better Mostin
mostin
Chickens are the best medicine, I may not be able to do much at the moment but I can sit out in the Autumn sun and watch my girls, they really make me chuckle. New girl Shirley decided to move into the eglu to lay her egg this morning, so much for a slow introduction! I think we will have to merge the pens this evening but still give them the two separate houses. Hopefully we'll have one happy family soon

JM
We got our chooks at the beginning of June - 2 started laying within a few weeks, but Bunty has only just started to lay (1st one last Saturday!) - mind you the eggs were straight in at 54g!!
