I use this to great effect quite often.

 

Before I start, you have to choose someone who knows a bit about you, you now know that I have been with my husband since I was at school (many years!)

 

Keep it ultra casual and say something like 'I was in a traffic jam this morning and a red ferrari pulled up alongside, funnily enough the chap in it looked just like my second husband.....'

 

and then walk away. You can hear their mind woirk a mile a minute trying to process that!

That usually causes a pause in the conversation.

A guy once told me I reminded him of his second wife (he'd only been married once). I replied that he looked like my first murder victim. He didn't try any more lame chat up lines on me after that

 

If anyone ever says "Would I?" to my Dad (i.e. in response to "don't do anything I wouldn't") he always answers in a really offended tone "don't call me wood-eye just cos I wear glasses"

If a man asks "Can I ask you a question?" I usually reply "I'm sorry I can't marry you my husband wouldn't like it". Sometimes I just say"no" and wait for the pause while they register my response.
