littleredhen
I currently have 2 broodies sitting in an eglu, hatching eggs are on their way. I was just wondering whether the eglu is okay when (if) the chicks have hatched, will they be able to get in and out and will they get stuck between the roosting bars. I presumably will have to seperate the hens when the chicks arrive as they are both together in the eglu at the mo. Just really wondering whether the eglu is suitable as a broody coop or will I have to get OH to make yet more hen housing!
Olly
I'm no expert, and haven't tried hatching chicks myself, but I believe you will have to isolate the chicks from any other hens (apart from their mothers) as they are likely to attack them. You will also need to remove the roosting bars until the chicks are bigger, as you are right, they will get trapped between them. I'm sure there are people on here who have hatched successfully using an Eglu. Have you got a plan for any cockerels that might hatch?
