urbanchick
I found something very weird in the nest box today. It was a collection of egg coloured lumps ranging in size from baked bean to about 1 inch diameter. I scooped them out and prodded the biggest one. To my shock it was totally solid as they all were. I cut the big one in half and can only describe it as having the texture of a very very hard boiled egg but that isn't a perfect description. It was definitely one of the ex batts who laid it but i can't be sure who. Probably Henrietta who usually lays a weak one every morning and eats it. She hasn't laid anything for a few days so is this like egg constipation? I have never seen Emily lay an egg or crouch so I doubt it's her. Here are some photos, the "egg" bits are covered in bits of aubiose. Don't look if you are eating your dinner: http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/2402682_hxPRd/1/377911940_H7wDe/Medium http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/2402682_hxPRd/1/377911919_icbad/Medium
abwsco
Mindy, our smallest ex batts has laid some huge rubber things like that. Oddly as well she either lays soft shelled eggs and eats them or shell less eggs which they all devour as she tends to lay those where she is stood. Ain't Nobody Here
Sounds like a lash, as described in the Omlet English Dictionary Here's a thread about them. "lash" = a bit of gubbins occasionally expelled from the laying tackle which looks like a bit of cooked chicken or an eraser (described by Egluntine; suggested by GooseyLucy) Photos courtesy of DucktorWho (caution advised )
urbanchick
Thanks ANH! That's exactly what it is! Maybe she'll start laying proper eggs after this...
