MadMitch
I want to create my own web page but I am rubbish with stuff like that. Can anyone recommend a good book or point me in the right direction. It will have to start with the very basics though.
Geoid
Download a progam called Namu6 (www.namu6.com) It is very very very easy to use (I made www.takeawaychooks.com with it)

stoice
I'd heard good reports of Web site in a box by Mr Site although I have had no experience of it myself.
blackpuddinonnabike
As far as books go I started with 'SAMS: Teach yourself HTML in 24 hours" Basically 24 lessons, each roughly an hour long, and gives you a grounding in HTML. I now use Dreamweaver for my sites, but having the background knowledge helps to sort little hiccups, or work out how to do things by looking at the source code of other sites. Guest
I would also recommend on of the "Sams" books. Anything you build yourself is much better than one of those site builders - they give you lots of options for personalisation but often still end up looking much the same. Of course there are always evening classes.....
