Manchester Apollo - advice from locals?

Recommended Posts

Hi laurmurf :D

It's a bit rough round the Apollo! I personally wouldn't park near there... whenever I've been there is lots of car window glass on the road

It might be easier if you park in the centre then get a bus to the gig. There are plenty of places to eat in the centre and your car might be safer

The Apollo is situated outside of Manchester City centre from Piccadilly train station towards Hyde and Bellevue if that helps...

let me know if you need more help and I'll have a think

BW :)

I used to live a mile or so south of the Apollo and yes- it is quite rough round there!!

Bus no 192 goes down the Stockport Road from Manchester Picaddilly to the Apollo (if its still the same no!) and they used to be about every 5 mins. The Apollo is before you get to Longsight in the Stockport direction.

Bringing back lots of memories....!

Have fun.

Hi there Lauramurf, I have to admit that we have been there quite a lot of late and people are right when they say its not a good area to park in, however we have always been fine ( driving a nice car too). There aren't any good eating places near, so I would agree withe the rest. park in town - lots of good place to eat. What style do you fancy? Then get a bus or taxi down to the Apollo. The 192 goes from Piccadilly bus station right past the Apollo - 10 mins max. They are very frequent and run all day and at night - it is the night sevice if you are heading Stockport way. Otherwise, what about the train? It is very close to Piccadilly station as well - perhaps 10 mins to walk. Also you need to check the start time and whether there is a support as the start times vary hugely. Doors open at 7, but then for example Robert Plant and Alison Krauss came on at 9pm, the Moody Blues came on at 8.15pm two weeks ago and last Saturday, Art Garfunkel came on at 7.40pm!!!!! We hadn't even got there. The Hoosiers are more likely to be 9pm but you never know. THey always post the time on the doors.

I would like to go to but OH prefers older stuff - I wouldn't mind but he was only a boy in the 60s!!!

Last time I was there ages ago I managed to get the car parked in the main car park & it was fine- can't remember if I paid anyone or not to look after the car :?

I went to see Level 42 there about 20 years ago, with an old boyfriend- he didn't pay any money to the minders & got his car broken into & all his stuff out of it nicked.

I'm very grateful for all the advice - I've decided to take the train with the kids instead. i think I'll feel easier and I won't be worried about driving back across Britain's highest motorway at midnight exhausted on a Sunday night! Anyway the train was cheap: 1 adult, 2 on 16-25 rail cards and two 14 year olds is £50 return. Worth it!

Marvelous. It would cost you nearly that in petrol probably and the peace of mind factor is worth paying for. :D

Ooh I started to panic when I read these threads....I'm seeing Magazine in February in Manchester and thought it was the Apollo, but it's the Academy, and I'm hoping that's not so rough. Don't want to park my beloved quattro anywhere nasty!!

The Acadamy is on Oxford Road, right by the Uni. I felt happier parking my car there than at the Apollo.

I've not been there for eons too!
