Chooks Aloud

Dolly and the vet

Recommended Posts

As you probably know Dolly has had a limp now for several months. Tried everything but to no avail. Decided enough was enough so off to the vets we went. The vet reckoned she had an inflammed hip - probably due to a fall. As she was examining her there was a loud click - Dolly never flinched at all. Ever hopeful that the vet had clicked her back in. She gave her an anti-inflammatory to help her and said it was up to me to decide what I wanted to do as there was nothing else that she could do. The vet was very nice and very helpful. Even with the injection I didn't notice any difference in her.

Now I don't have favourites, but Dolly is and always will be my special girl. Dolly is healthy in every other way other than this limp so there is no way I'm going to let her go. I lift her out of the eglu every morning and lift her back in at night (she could do it herself, but I don't want to risk her hurting herself anymore). I lift/walk her round the garden and in the dirt and bring the water/food to her to stop her exerting herself. I've put a separate run inside the chicken run so that she can be by herself, although still in proximity of the others, and this makes sure she has food and water and is not chased off by any of the others. The things we do for our chooks.

Well, today Dolly has been getting round the garden like a goodun. I don't know if it's my imagination but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
