Egg Lou
Just spent half a day moving my cube and run with 1 extension to new winter site..and added another 2 extensions, so now have a very long 5m "runway" run I have kept my flap comversion door at the end but also added a whole panel hinge half way along to make my big weekly clean much easier! The big girls have 2 green grubs high with their layers pellets, and a very low orange grub of growers for the pekins! A super glug, a glug and a mushroom drinker down the end covers all heights too! Hopfully this is a nice enough space for my 4 hybrids and 3 pekins now the days are much shorter and free ranging in more limited! Pekins enjoying their new space! Plum
Yup I reckon you've won not seen a longer cube run. Great area for them. How have you managed a panel hinge half way along?
Egg Lou
Yup I reckon you've won not seen a longer cube run. Great area for them. How have you managed a panel hinge half way along? Nah.. There's lots of people with this many extensions on here! I'm just jealous of all the walk in runs as can't have one till I move next year The hinge is just the same principle as my half "flap" version... I strengthened the top then secured the sides and bottom with metal clips.. weighed down the edging to keep foxproof.. then on clean out day I'll lift the whole panel upwards and lay across the roof! alih
That looks amazing but I am confused about the number of extensions - have my cube with standard run and 2 extra extensions, making 3 altogether - could 5 hybrids stay in there pretty much all day or is that too small do you think? Oh sorry alih! I don't want to cause anyone concern ! Your set up sounds fabulous for 5 girls.. many people keep more hens in less space so I really wouldn't worry as it sounds like yours have loads of room!.. infact more than mine as I have 7 in what equals 5 extensions/run ..although 3 are bantams I just prefer more space too as they don't get out as much in these darker days
alih
Thanks Egg Lou, just checking what length your run actually was! 5 lengths for 7 is fantastic but hope 3 lengths for 5 will be ok as mine won't get out much in the winter - anyway I only have 3 for now, but want to add more in the Spring!
