HENthusiastic
Is it okay that my girls are all different weights? I'm worried that they may be underweight. Ive just looked at the topic "do you weigh your girls" and people were reporting weights anything between 2lb - 9lb! So that didn't give me a guideline. My heaviest is loads bigger than the lightest, so Im trying to feed the lightest one up.... but maybe im just being neurotic and they are just different sizes! Also worried because their chest bone feels so pointy out on some of them. I wish I could just chill out. They all seem happy and well! Leicester_H
Hi My 2 have sticky out bones - and are a bit 'oven-ready' at present. But they seem happy enough, run around , eat EVERYTHING in sight - so I'm supposing its a bit like people- Some stay thin and some just have to look at a cream cake to put on weight. I assume if there are no other causes(worms) for concern - all is well. H
chickencam
They vary enormously from bird to bird and also at different times of year. My White Star is really skinny not helped by not having a full covering of feathers, she is an egg laying machine everything she eats goes in eggs. One of my Pepperpots was really scrawny until she stopped laying to grow some new feathers after a partial moult, now she is quite plump and has a lovely covering of shiney beetle black feathers
Snowy
A lot depends on their breed as well. Gingernuts and whitestars really are egg laying machines. You should be able to feel a prominent breast bone. Others like the pepperpot and susex/maran breeds are chunkier. If they are happy and healthy and doing everything normally (eating and laying), then I wouldn't worry too much. Only one other thing, are they due to be wormed? Might be worth considering as a heavy worm burden will cause weight loss.

piptiddlepip
Ours are all different too. Gytha is absolutely enormous, with the biggest knickers you've ever seen - we do laugh at her. Aggie is a slim little thing, not that you'd know it fromv the amount she puts away. They're all different, like humans.
kirbyhouse
Hi HENthusiastic, Took Popcorn to the vet last night. She hasnt laid for months, is losing feathers at an alarming rate and she is soooooo skinny The vet checked her over and she has a good gritty crop, ears, eyes and mouth all clean. She eats like a horse but is skinny as a rake. He cant really see why and she seems happy enough. I already give them VermX pellets. I am worried about her but he has given her a weeks worth of Baytril to see if that helps. My two Marans are a year younger than her and are HUGE My three Japanese Frizzled Bantams are bony little things and seriously feisty - O how I love them all! Guess different breeds have different builds. I'm sure your lady is fine. Sal x
HENthusiastic
Thanks for all your replys everybody. I guess I'll just have to try harder to relax! I never had myself down for a neurotic mother, but since they have been ill, I just cant seem to stop worrying.
