sarahs
Hi all We found our first egg today - Yay! Our chooks are free ranging and I found it this evening as I was scouring the garden on the poop scoop run. It's a beautiful speckled brown egg, 40g. So, here's the next question - how do I persuade the girls to lay in the nestbox? They seem happy enough to go to bed in the nest box at night-time, but they go nowhere near the eglu during the day after we let them out of the pen after their breakfast. Should I keep them in the pen for a few days so that Roxy acclimatises? My daughter and I are delighted, we were beginning to wonder if we would see them laying before the springtime. Cheers for now Emily and Sarah

Christian
Congratulations Emily and Sarah! Wonderful feeling isn't it? I would keep them in the run until lunchtime. Also, put a ping pong ball n the nestbox to encourage her to lay there. It worked for mine when they started laying.
