Broody hen and attack hen.

Recommended Posts

Hi

Can anyone help.

I've had my girls since July and golly has gone broody 3 times :wall:

2 days in a cage are enough to snap her out of it but the problem comes when I try and put her back with the others.

The first time she went back without any problem, I just let them all out to free range for a while then put them all back in the run.

The second time I did the same all was going well untill Golly started arguing with the metal pole of the washing line  (no idea why) and Ginger started a huge punch up, grabbing gollys comb and tearing at it. Golly had a go back but she wears a bumper bit because she pulls out poor Boco's feathers, so couldn't do any damage. This went on for hours and was resolved in the end with the help of the hosepipe.

This time we tried just leaving Golly to get on with being broody. But after a week she had lost so much weight and pulled out so many feathers (how with the bumper bit on?) we gave up and stuck her in the cage.

Last night I put her back with the others about 8.30 when they were all asleep, all was peacefull. This morning Ginger is attacking her again. I stood with the hosepipe for a few hours and it has calmed down now, Golly is very weary of her and is doing her best to keep out of her way.

Am I doing something wrong?

What do I do the next time she goes broody?

My Cube arrives next Tuesday, is the change of house likely to start it all off again?

Any ideas?
