making a star garland

Recommended Posts

I would like to make a star garland out of stiff but slightly see through and shimmery white or silver paper/ fabric.

The idea is to cut out lots stars and sew them along a long length of sheer ribbon and then hang it across our living room ceiling, rather like bunting. I had a look in Fabric Land and they don't seem to have anything. I also looked in Paperchase to see if they had any suitable card or paper. Nope. I have some fabric at home my mum gave me which is sort of like an interfacing fabric, but quite a stiff one and is purple and slightly shimmery.

Does anyone know what this sort of paper or fabric would be and where I might be able to get it? I know I am possibly looking for something that isn't even available, but thought I'd give it a try.

Many thanks, Karin x

Hi - take a look at these http://www.cardinspirations.co.uk/section.php/585/1/magic_fibres

they are called magic fibres, you lay them out onto greaseproof paper, mix colours together, trap beads & sequins / glitter between layers...put another layer of paper on top - then iron to fuse fibres together. It then becomes like a thin irridescent fabric film that you can cut, sew onto clothes etc etc. I love the stuff & it would look lovely as a garland of stars. You can also buy sheets that iron & fuse together. I think ideal world also sell it.
