freespiritbutterfly
Hi everyone, my chickens, i have noticed have decided that the poo tray they have in their eglu isn't big enough and that they insist on pooing intheir nesting area as well. I have put a ceramic pot in their nesting bit (admitably not quite the size of the nest bit slightly smaller) but that hasn't deterred all they've done with that is poo on it Can anyone help i think they are about to lay in the next two weeks im hoping because their crops have gone alot redder since i've had them and their around 22 - 23 weeks old nw (arrived between 20 and 21 weeks and ive had them two weeks). Thanks for any help given
Plum
Not got much experience, but the first few days one of mine slept half in and half out and pood in the nesting box. I moved her out after dark. She gave me some dirty looks and I felt a bit mean but it worked and she joins the others in a fluffy bundle now. Egluntyne
If you put a large football in the nest box it should discourage them from sleeping there. In the past I have gone out and moved them onto the roosting bars . That seems to work if you do it for a few nights.
Plum
Er no. Got home tonight and one cuddled up in nest box and 2 jammed in perching on edge of it. Lots of poo in nest box. Better let someone else answer.
SnowWhite
Mine haven't got the hang of it either. Tonight Thora is sat on the entrance to the nest box - facing the egg port so poo the other way - phew! Siggy however is perched on top of the nest box divider posed to poo on Thora's head and all over the nice clean nest box! I'm sending OH out to 'reset' them back on to the roosting bars now! josephine77
I think the chickens motto is "have bum, will poo" There really is no stopping them
mostin
Every few weeks I think I have them trained and we have poo free eggs and a poo free nest box, but then as soon as I relax they move straight back in again . It's obviously just far too comfy for them .
PurpleTree
The amount of poo in mine seems to have decreased over the last few days, since they've all started laying. Either they've stopped sleeping in it, or they're managing to kick the poo out when they're getting comfy ready to lay.
