Busybird
We bought an ultrasonic pest repeller - not sure if that is the same thing - as we had problems with moles at the bottom of our garden, rats in the compost bins, squirrels on the bird table, and neighbouring cats pooing in the children's sandpit. It had no effect whatsoever and was expensive on batteries. We eventaully got rid of the pests with snap traps (moles and rats), a cage trap for the squirrels and 3 chicken's that chase off neighbouring cats . Of course, after a period of time the pests are just replaced with more who realise that the territory is 'available'. One of the squirrels attacked the chickens when they were all after spilt sunflower hearts We wouldn't spend the money on an ultrasonic device again. bokbokbok
We had a MOUSE one (or two) for the house. It was plugged in to the upstairs hall socket outside our bedroom door. One night a mouse s"Ooops, word censored!"ed our door to pieces trying to get in to the bedroom - not more than 2 feet from the machine. I haven't bothered recommending them to anyone since. Would love to hear of a suitable way to get rid of rats though - ours are plaguing the life out of me at the moment - keep up the research Edited November 19, 2008 by Guest
PurpleTree
we had a cat one that ran on batteries, but the cats didn't seem to take any notice. It then got infested by woodlice and broke. Someone did say you need 3 or 4 of them in different parts of your garden to have full effect, and apparently the mains powered ones are better than the battery ones. I won't bother buying another one though.
ruth1
I had a mouse one in the stable tack room and one day watched a mouse climb down the wall and then sit on it, so i would say they dont work.and to get a cat.
Cuckoos Nest
Sharon 539, I've cut and pasted this that I wrote on another thread. Anticoagulants are the best way to go. Not wanting to upset anyone, but there still is no firm scientific evidence that these "ultrasonic" devices actually work. In the USA many firms are being prosecuted for making claims about there repellers that can not be proven. Beleive me, I would be a millionare by now if they did work. having said that, there are plenty of people who say that their pest problems stopped when they got one.... Jury is still out on that one Steve
