Chooks Aloud
Chico is yet again growing an enormous amount of new feathers and spends the day hunched up, does not eat and I haven't seen her drink either. Obviously I cannot spend all day with her but I've tried giving her treats/water and she just doesn't want to know. I was thinking that I might have to syringe some water into her - I know this can be troublesome as it can go into their lungs I think I have heard someone mention before. Any suggestions? I gave her a cuddle this morning before work and when I put her down she just lay on the floor on her side, eyes closed and beak open. I kept prodding her to get up and she eventually did, but I'm worried about her. Karen
Egluntyne
She sounds as if she might be poorly tbh. Growing new feathers doesn't ususally take that much out of them. Why not try to tempt her with some sloppy pellet porridge. I would encourage her to drink if you can. Someone recently surecommended using an old sports bottle to get fluid into a relucatnt drinker. Has she been wormed recently?

Chooks Aloud
Sorry I haven't replied sooner, only just logged on again. Well Chico is much better. Still looking rather shabby, new quills everywhere, but she is eating/drinking and getting better. She even chased another chook away from the food so that she could get to it. The moult has really taken it out of her and she still needs building up because sometimes her little legs buckle from underneath her but fingers crossed, she's over the worst. Thanks for all your concern. Karen

sandyhas3chucks
very good, have you tried extra calcium and protein,if the moult has taken it out of her she could be really short. apparently there is a high protein tube of stuff for ailing dogs that is good for chooks recovering. was going to get some today and only just remembered about it. Pets at home stock it.
