TAJ
It is the national poultry show this weekend at Stoneleigh (plus 2-for-1 offer in Practical Poultry this month). Did anyone go today or going tomorrow? We are thinking about it - a chance to see 4,500 chickens seems too good to miss! Looney
Think it is a typo and should be anyone - t is next to y on the keyboard! Sounds great but I won't be going. Would love to hear from anyone that made it - all those chickens in one place!

Egluntyne
I see! I wondered if it was a reference to Anton in Strictly!
TAJ
My show report. Firstly with the Practical Poultry 2-for-1 offer it cost £8 for both of us to get in - but we even re-couped that cost with our savings on feed - They had the Smallholders range discounted, plus you got a voucher for £3 off you next bag. We are currently paying £8.99 a bag, but got a bag (dated to March 2009) for under £7, plus a voucher to use at any supplier for £3 off. We also bought some of their super mixed corn for much cheaper than our normal supplier (this is like mixed corn, but only 70% wheat, with added barley, peas, grit & shell as well as maize in the mix). Well the birds - as you can imagine being the national there were so than fantastic looking birds, with all the different breed socities their with additional information. Plus there were turkeys, and the most giant ducks and geece I have ever seens in my life, not to mention the egg classes. ...oh and did I mention the birds for sale? There were some lovely examples and some I could have easily taken home (no room for any more birds ) Then there were 12 stalls selling various essential extras that any poultry owner just has to have. Given the number of birds being professionally photed I assume the next Practical Poultry will have lots of show photos. Certainly if you want to see different breeds up close it really is a good place to go - many more varities than went I have visited Wernlas and that was pretty impresive. If you are looking at pure breeds it is certainly a place to see a vast range and a grand half-day out. Tracy

Redwing
I wanted to go but OH starts his new job tomorrow so we have spent the day driving the route again and again (and again) so he could get the route in to his thick skull. As it was we ended up ordering a cycle sat nav for £220 anyway Grrrrrrrrrrrr! A waste of a day that I could have been spending elsewhere else.... spending
laurmurf
Oh Tracy I am so VERY ! I was hoping to go but we've been away too many weekends - as it is we had a fab and very chickeny time (thanks to mostin and purple hen!). Since I didn't get to Stoneleigh, my girls and I are planning to go to the National Federation of Poultry clubs show in Stafford on the weekend of 20/21 December (we're making a girls' weekend of it and staying overnight and going both days!). I do hope there's lots of retail opportunities - food and chickenalia! Thanks for inspiring us!
