piptiddlepip
This morning I left the back door open while I put the girls' mash out. As soon as I let them out they legged it up the back garden, glanced at the mash, decided they would prefer to scoff the cats' food instead and bolted into the kitchen until I dashed down the garden and shooed them out. Esme was the last to leave, and as she left she glanced over the shoulder, curled her beak* and deposited a large, steamy "morning poo" right in the middle of the back step before strutting away, clucking the chicken equivalent of "Sucks to be you!" *I may have imagined this bit

Guest
I have had to borrow a baby gate to stop this delinquent behaviour from my hens. If the gate isn't fastened they are straight in and at the cat food without a by-your-leave!
chelsea
I have a piece of stretchy trellis across my back door, just high enough for the dog to jump over but not stable enough for the girls to attempt to perch on.
mostin
I don't know who started the rumour that chickens are thick but I've never met such crafty creatures
