welsh sarah
hi my 2 pekins are about 15 weeks old now and they still seem very small (i know they are meant to be small) i was thinking that they would be fully grown by 20 weeks or am i wrong. sarah
Snowy
I think you are right, they may still grow a little bit up to 20 weeks. I know that the large birds are definitely smaller at 15 weeks than at 20. Even at 20 weeks I've found the big girls still get a bit bigger and fill out. You will probably find the same with your pekins
welsh sarah
thanks snowy i am a bit worried about cats if they remain this small hopefully they will have a bit of a growth spurt now or maybe they were youmger than 10 weeks when i had them sarah
Janty
My pekins didn't look like 'proper pekins' until they were about six months old. Only then did they look like fine puffballs of feathers. My smallest pekin chases our cat down the garden but the cat is wary of the chickens since the brahmas got him.
The Dogmother
I've always had some pekins in my flock and believe me, they come in all sizes. Currently, I have Lily, who is about the shape and size of a football, and Lavinia who is half that size. they are usually a bit late to start laying, take frequent breaks for broodiness, but are the funniest and most bothersome of chickens... Pat Butcher with feathers as a friend calls them.
welsh sarah
thanks claret and janty there is hope for mine then, they are about 15 or 16 weeks now i think. they are so much smaller then my other girls, they are in the eglu run and the big girls are freeranging around them. i will leave it another month before i start freeranging introductions i think. i am still bringing them in every night and putting them in the conservatory (i am mad i know ) another confession, i put on the brooder (red ) light overnight as it has been so cold. reassure me i am not doing them any harm sarah

welsh sarah
hi aaron glad your girls are doing well. i think my introductions will have to wait as there is too much of a size difference, my french marans are big girls and my pekins still make baby noises not chickeny noises yet. i think they are late developers sarah
