mostin
I got home from work tonight to a very stressed OH. He was on the driveway as I got out of the car, very unusual as he usually doesn't even look up from the PC as I walk in the door . He was all out of breath and flustered. His words to greet me were " I want you to tell all your friends on that forum how hard it is to be to OH of a chicken keeper you know". The other night he had shut the hens in for me and then come back in, I said in passing "you did do a head count didn't you?" and got that duh look. I then had to lecture him that he couldn't assume that they were all in the eglu just because it was dark. Tonight he gone to shut them in, and for the first time ever done a head count, and there was one missing , my Shirley. She is our houdini chicken and must have got out of the omlet netting at some point during the day and then gone to roost in a bush, or even worse, been eaten. To make things worse, I had had to take Priscilla to be put down last thurs so he was detrmined he was not going to welcome me home with the loss of another of my girls. It seems he was patrolling the garden, with torch for half an hour looking for a black hen with no luck , he finally thought to get some corn and shake a tub of that and out she popped , from where though he has no idea. She was coaxed into the run with raisins and is safely shut away with the other girls. Naughty girl , don't they know how they worry us? Funny story though, and yes they do like to make us worry, (and feel guilty) little monkeys Oh yes, definitely guilty. She has made me feel that she escaped because I didn't move the eglu and the netted area (which is huge), recently enough. So tomorrow I will be spending my day off moving it all to a different part of the garden so they have loads more fresh lawn to eat . They say jump........and I say, how high . mostin
Well done that man. I bet he never thought he would be looking for chickens in the dark. It must be love. I say it's love, he tells everybody it's pure fear as he usually doesn't even look up from the PC as I walk in the door. I love that bit. Well done that man for rescuing the escapee. He has scored quite a few bonus hubby points with that act I have to say, he is using them up fast though spending lots of extra time on the PC . I am still amazed that he even noticed she was gone, and then went to all that effort to find her. Bless him xxxxxxxxxxx

Who frequently wades through muck and mire to ensure his up until recently heavily pregnant other half doesn't lose her cool and decide to run round chasing up chooks... They are good to us aren't they
