4m x 3m Omlet pen, cube, new auto door still boxed and coop light

Today i bought a dozen eggs from marks and spencer, and I plan to try to hatch them

I have heard M+S have a decent hatch rate from "shop eggs" so I thought I'd give it a go.

I will post updates here, so keep an eye out if you're interested.

Eggs left to rest, incubator turned on.

I read somewhere that eggs produced for the supermarket were not allowed to be fertile...maybe what I read was rubbish, but it looked like some sort of official site ( from U.K).

They aren't supposed to be, but occasionally rogue males sneak in (or males pretend to be female like my silkie...)

I'm not expecting much from these, but as its been done, I thought I'd give it a go!

Eggs went into the incubator at 12.30pm

 

Next wednesday is day 10, so will candle then, but I won't discard any til day 21

I have an elderly aunt who when I did some shopping for once, which included eggs from Sainsbury's said that she hadn't bought eggs for a while and the reason was, although she would not go into details, that she had got her last lot from Marks and Spencers and she got a shock when she tried to boil one. I got the impression that there was something unexpected in that egg,possibly it was about to hatch, and at any rate she was so shocked she immediately threw whatever it was away. Would an unhatched chick make a noise in the shell? She said there was a terrible, loud noise and would not tell me any more.

 

I always thought that shop bought eggs were infertile.

I have before hatched free range; free range eggs..... but who'd have thought it from M+s!!!!

I decided to take a look to see with the candler, and I think that they're all dud, but I won't hoik em out til day 14, so another week, just in case. They all looked quite porous like my light sussex eggs that didn't hatch did, but time will tell
