having done the daily quiz and in a very slow time again, I wished I could read more quickly. Then I remembered my father used to enter speed reading competitions with a team must have been around 35 years ago or so. Have any of you folk any memories of this or even experience?

I have no experience with speed reading, but I do remember that if you are taught to speed read, you are taught to read vertically rather than horizontally

I can speed read but not for things like the quiz! I can do it brilliantly when I@m marking!!!

I find it's not the time taken to read on these quizzes, it's the time it takes to reload the page

 

edit: just done today's quiz and got no10 wrong finger hovered over the correct answer and then I changed my mind

Tessa is right - it requires vertical reading. It gives you the gist of things but I find I do miss things sometimes

I wonder if there are still competitions in speed reading? I shall google it...

You scan down the middle of the page - in a block, almost disregarding the outer edges........it's a long time now since i read about it and started doing it.....you will find out more if you Google it

You also disregard words like 'and', 'the', and the like and just read the nouns, verbs etc., so you get the gist of the contents. I tend to call this skip reading, but it works unless you are reading a book in which every word counts

and I find myself doing it when I'm tired....and then have to go back and read the book properly
