Poached
hi i have recently put my 4 cream legbars and a copper maran in my rearing shed and they are 5/6 weeks old and i wondered if they could go in the yet with two omlet shades each sides still stay in the shed and when will they be able to go onto layers yet or not sorry about the questions its because i have only raised ducks and the good news is that they are all hens josh
Egluntyne
They are far too young for layers pellets just yet. The extra calcium in them will be harmful to birds so young. They should be on Growers Pellets till around 18 weeks. I have had birds as young as 7-8 weeks in an Eglu and they were perfectly happy. I covered the run so that there were no draughts and removed the roosting bars until they were around 12 weeks....and they were fine. Christian
I agree with Egluntine Duckluver, 18 weeks onwards for layers pellets. They need the nutrients in the growers pellets for strong bones, until then.
