Ain't Nobody Here
I can't find my Microsoft Picture Manager anywhere . I've looked in all the obvious places and trawled the internet to find a download but to no avail . Can anyone help? It's really bugging me having to use Windows Picture & Fax viewer (which is no good for editing anyway ). All my other Microsoft Office applications are there . Geoid
Have you: Installed any updates? Installed any new Office software? Had a virus? Have you ran a virus scan recently? If you still can't find it, get your Office CD and re-install it. (you will need to choose advanced install) Or Go to Program files > microsoft office folder > click on "set up" for your microsoft office and click on "custom install" setting > click on "office tools" > go down to the "picture manager" and open the drop down box > change the red X to any of the other options. Ain't Nobody Here
Thanks, Fred . I was hoping you'd be out there! I keep all my disks carefully but don't have Office. I suspect it might have been preinstalled by Dell (unless it's hidden on one of the Dell disks somewhere .) I can't find a "setup" option in Office - where do I find it exactly? I haven't had a virus & run virus checks every day. I've installed new software for my son's mobile (which won't work ) & I have an old copy of MS Office 2003 which I've tried installing but it doesn't seem to include Picture Manager . Would a system restore help, do you think?
Geoid
The setup option is lurking around in your Hard Disk, under program files.
Leicester_H
Hi You've looked under Start | Programs | Microsoft Office | Microsoft Office Tools | Microsoft Office Picture Manager I assume ?? H
Egluntyne
I wondered the same. Also...have you turned the computer off and on again? Cures a lot of ills. Just a thought.
Ain't Nobody Here
Oh yes! And everywhere else on the hard drive. It's nowhere to be seen . I'll give that a go Fred, thanks. Never thought of that, Egluntine . I'll try kicking it if that doesn't work .
Geoid
If it still doesn't work I got some software that can remotely control your PC. So I could find it for you.
Leicester_H
Have you tried doubling clicking on a picture file that you previously opened in picture manager to see if the application is really still there?? (like if you click on a word file, word automatically opens) H
Ain't Nobody Here
That's how I realised it had disappeared. When I click on a photo, it doesn't open automatically. Right click and "open with" and I get a list of programs which doesn't include Picture Manager (it used to be there) .

I suspect it might have been preinstalled by Dell (unless it's hidden on one of the Dell disks somewhere .) They really ought to give you ALL the disks!! I assume the rest of office works still (you didn't have a time limited demo - You'd be lucky to get a full version unless you paid for it)? Can you email Dell tech support ?? Ain't Nobody Here
Yes, everything else is still there . Fred's kindly offered to rummage in my PC ( ) but I'm attempting to burn Picture Manager (which is still on my laptop) onto a CD and try burning that onto the PC. Leicester_H
I'd be a bit cautious of giving control of your PC to someone else over the internet. I know Fred can be trusted but I'd be worried about the link getting 'hi-jacked' - slim risk I know but I'm 'paranoid' !! Fred - what is the actual file name of the exe file for Picture manager ? Whats the path to it on your PC ?? (I haven't had time to resolve all the aliases) H
Geoid
There is very little risk of the PC getting hijacked. It is encrypted with 32 bit data protection. Edited January 1, 2009 by Guest
Geoid
Go to My Documents - in the white bar at the top copy this in to it: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11 Then look for a file called OIS. If its there, picture manager is still there. If its not, picture manager has been deleted. I know this picture is a bit big...
Leicester_H
Sorry Fred - I am not a security expert (too difficult) but I work in IT and previously worked in IT Services Department of Leicester University which takes security VERY seriously - so I know several security experts If computers (inc ALL the s/w on them) and connections could be made 100% secure we would never hear of hacking - and there would be no security industry. - there is ALWAYS a risk - its a matter of weighting up the risks against the benefits Happy New Year, H
Leicester_H
Go to My Documents - in the white bar at the top copy this in to it: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11 Thanks - mine is under same path but OFFICE12 - I was searching for a file with picture in the name (doh!!) So you could try searching for OIS.EXE on main drive ?? H
Geoid
I agree, no system is 100% secure. But it is very safe, if firewalls and anti virus are running then there should be no problem.
Ain't Nobody Here
Thanks for trying to help, guys, it's much appreciated . I was a bit about the remote rummaging too (although I trust you, Fred ) so may use that as a last resort. I only have C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office on my PC (but Office11 on the laptop ). I had worked out that the application was called OIS from looking on my laptop but the program is definitely not there on the PC. So, I burned it onto a disk (not being sure if you can actually do this ) and copied it into "Office" but when I try to run it it says "MsoCFU.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem". I copied that "dll" file over from the laptop but there was a string of missing dlls. So I copied them all over. Now it says "this operating system is not presently configured to run this application" . Now I know a little about computers but I'm always in danger of mucking things up by trying to fix things myself. I've tried installing it from Add/Remove Programs but it's not a setup file so doesn't work. OK, I'm beaten . BTW, I have XP Home Edition on PC and Professional on laptop. Ain't Nobody Here
I've decided to give up on MS Picture Manager and have downloaded Faststone Image Viewer instead. It seems to do more than PM so I'll see how that goes. Thanks for your input anyway!
