How about this for a coincidence

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone

Think there is something in Sheffield which will alway surprise you.

I was born there as therefore when doing my family tree try to get books or look at books via the net. Well, there is a book about an area called Norton and the schools around that area. Would you believe that within that book is a school photo of a group of children as we all were in the 50's and yours truly is on that photograph age about 8 or 9!

So we are all famous at some time and we just do not know it.

Best regards for 2009.

Hi Ian

Which school would that have been? I too was born in Sheffield and lived at Greenhill for most of my childhood. I went to Jordanthorpe (as it then was) and my dad played golf at Lees Hall - not too far from Norton! I remember the water tower very well!

Talking about coincidences, I may have mentioned this one before ... I am (as you can see) from Sheffield and my OH was brought up in Bath. We met at Kent University. However, we found out, quite soon after starting our relationship, that our paternal grandfathers lived within about three miles of each other in Lincolnshire and used to meet up in the pub on the odd Saturday. That has always been the biggest coincidence in my life.

Hi Jlo

In answer to your question about schools ....... Norton Free then Jordanthorpe and then Sheffield Central Technical School.

Moved with parents to Lytham St Annes and worked at British Aircraft Corp. this then changed its name several times to become BAe Systems. I spent my life there for 33 yrs.

and finally had the chance to retire early.

I took the chance and got out I do not miss the place as lots had changed not always for the good. Hear via a friend who still work there they had to split my job up between 10 men as no one could do my job on their own  I do not believe it but there is progress for you :!:

Glad to read the water tower is still there.

Best regards for 2009.

Ian
