4m x 3m Omlet pen, cube, new auto door still boxed and coop light

We have had our chickens since sept and all has been well and thoroughly enjoyable. We always keep an eye out for any changes in behaviour and have noticed that our Siggy is doing something a bit strange. She occasionally picks up bits of twigs or leaves or pieces of things, swings her neck round and puts them on her back. Didnt know if there was something bothering her. Any explanation please?

This is nesting, they do it sometimes before they go into lay an egg. I'm no expert but that's what it sounds like.

I think it is something to do with nesting.

 

One of mine does that with the woodchips from the run, I am always removing a shedload of them from the nesting box as they fall off her back there

Mine do that when I open the nest box to say goodnight!! (they sleep in there!) (I thought it was their way of saying "Shut the door" )

How sweet, my Grackle did that with straw in the nestbox before laying an egg until I changed the straw to Hemcore, she's not laid an egg since.

Definitely nesting behaviour. They look so daft walking about with wigs on their backs.

I have a feeling I have seen it before though and someone on here is already using it so it may be back to the drawing board
