cheesychickchick Posted January 8, 2009 Share Posted January 8, 2009 Hi. anyone. First time visit here. Had you recommended. We have rescued 3 battery hens and 3 free range hens. They have been here for 6 and 3 months and are now completely integrated, organically fed, garden-running, happy and totally tame. Lots of stories to tell....all funny...what great pets they are. Our question is: Why would we occasionally get a bad-tasting egg? We are not sure which chicken it is. The egg looks normal and smells normal. What should we do? live with it? Cinnamon Posted January 9, 2009 Share Posted January 9, 2009 Do you add garlic powder to their feed or a clove of garlic to their water? The only time I had a problem with a strange tasting lot of eggs is when I over garlicked them by mistake & they ended up with a triple dose in the feed. Snowy Posted January 9, 2009 Share Posted January 9, 2009 I had a funny tasting one last week and wondered if it might be garlic - it wasn't 'off', just an odd flavour I put garlic granules in with their pellets, and I know that some of them like to just eat the granules! I used to have a girl who layed odd tasting (and smelling) eggs sometimes, it was however at the end of her laying life so may have had something to do with that. Plus it was always a bit watery. I am afraid that I just used to sling it as it wasn't nice. Can you describe how it tasted in case it isn't the garlic problem, we might be able to think of something else if not.
