Around this time of year I always get to thinking about the year that has passed & what I loved & hated about it, & write a kind of mental list.

 

This is not personal stuff - for me it goes without saying that the thing I am happiest about is that my family are healthy & thriving,but more what I have thought of the years events on a personal level.

 

I would love to hear your highs & lows of 2008 too.

The election of Barack Obama as president. Can only ba a good thing.

 

WORST NEWS

 

The untimely death of the divine Heath Ledger. I still cannot watch a movie of his without getting all weepy.

 

The complete lack of anything even vaguley resembling a summer.

 

The death of Anthony Minghella, who was IMHO, a genius.

'No Time For Goodbye' - Linwood barclay ... A haunting story of a family who dissapear,leaving their troubled daughter behind.

'Harry Potter & The deathly Hallows' - JK Rowling...brilliant ending to a wonderful series of books

Also animal welfare in this country is improving all the time

Mamma Mia - didn't get to watch it at the time it came out but caught it on a flight and it was great fun.

 

Best new book read

The Kite Runner. I didn't select it as my favourite book club book as I think Brick Lane is even better and I'd read Brick Lane before 2008 but the Kite Runner was a wonderful read (can't remember who selected it but thank-you).

I also found The Bangalore Tiger compelling reading - It's about the development of the company Wipro and reading it probably marks me out as terribly sad

PS2 Singstar and Abba songs. I really really cannot sing but this is fun
