Ain't Nobody Here
My son has bought a Logitech USB Desktop Microphone. It won't install on our PC running XP Home Edition (but does so with no problems on the laptop running XP Professional). I tried copying the "usbccgp" driver that seems to be the problem but it still doesn't work. A bit of investigation has unearthed this solution: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/814560/en-us I have emailed and received the hotfix but I'm a bit concerned by all the warnings that go with it . Am I safe to install the hotfix? Is there another way round it? Help . Edited January 10, 2009 by Guest

Redwing
Sorry not many of us up late at night - hopefully you will get the answer you need tomorrow, computers are so tricky even if you know what you are doing. I spent years training people to use computers too so should really be able to help perhaps that explains why none of my trainees have gone to on to work in IT. Geoid
When you plug it in, does windows recgonise it is there? Does a pop up come up?
Ain't Nobody Here
Thank goodness you're back Fred . Yes, it recognises it but then, it can't find the Windows driver and the "search for driver" popup appears and even when I point it in the direction of the windows drivers folder, it doesn't install. The install process worked perfectly on my laptop .
ruth1
Sorry Caught OH in passing he thinks the hotfix should be ok, Im not any help really am I
Ain't Nobody Here
Thanks . I kind of thought it would be, as it came from Microsoft, but they said things like "only install this if you're really really really suffering from the problem described", "make sure you backup your system", "this hotfix is untested" and other anxiety-inducing phrases . I'll wait to see if Fred agrees then go ahead!
Geoid
Go for it, you can always restore if things go wrong.
Ain't Nobody Here
Why was I worrying? The blooming hotfix didn't work anyway . I'm going to try to persuade ES to swop microphones with YS (he's not keen but for goodness sake, it's only a microphone ).
